No carpet lasts forever, but you can add years to the life of a good carpet with regular care.
- Vacuuming is essential; you should vacuum at least once a week minimum but more would be better.
- Foam Spray: For light to medium-soiled carpets, use an aerosol foam spray, scrub with a brush, let dry, and vacuum. May require frequent applications to ensure best results.
- Dry Powder: Also for light to medium soil, powder is spread over carpet where it helps to release dirt; which is then vacuumed up.
- Wet Shampoo: One of the most widely used home cleaning methods. Used for tougher stains or an overall thorough cleaning. Ask for professional advice before trying this one to avoid leaving detergent in the carpeting.
- Steam: Not really steam, but more of a hot detergent. Used for tough stains, this method uses a high pressure spray that gets deep into the fibers. It's a slower process but a more effective method than just vacuuming.
