PRE INSTALLATION REQUIREMENTS & TIPS
Listed below are a few things you need to accomplish before the installers arrive in order to provide the best professional installation possible.

Please Note: If the following work is not completed prior to installation, rescheduling and extra charges may apply.

YOU MUST BE PRESENT
It is necessary for you, or an authorized decision-maker, to be present at the time of installation. You will be asked to confirm the selection, location for installation, any "custom work charges" and total price before any work is started.

CLEAR WORK AREA
The work area must be kept clear at all times, so please make sure children are properly supervised in another area of your home. Likewise, pets must be kept away from installers and the work area at all times.

PROVIDE ELECTRICAL POWER
Please make sure that adequate electrical power is available for electrical tools as well as adequate ventilation and lighting.

ROOM TEMPERATURE 70O
Please make sure the temperature is at least 70 degrees for at least 24-hours prior to installation in all areas to receive new carpet or other floor covering. This is important for proper stretching. Some products (wood and some laminate flooring) may require advanced delivery for proper product acclimation to varying climate factors.

If you are going to remove the old carpet and pad or other floor covering, please use these helpful steps. DO NOT pull up old tackless strips (looks like yard sticks with staples) from around the perimeter of the room. The installer will check the tackless strips and replace them when necessary. When removing the old pad, make sure that all staples are removed or nailed completely into the sub-floor and that the floor is swept clean and smooth with no remaining padding or staples to snag your new carpet.

FURNITURE REMOVAL & REPLACEMENT
Carpet Mart sub-contracts installers, and by prior arrangement, we can schedule removal and replacement of normal household furniture at an additional charge. (See store personnel for details.)

REMOVE BREAKABLES
In most cases, the installers will complete the entire installation at one time. It is your responsibility to remove all furniture and items subject to breakage such as lamps, glassware, table decorations, plants, pianos/organs, televisions, stereo/CD systems, VCR's, computers and computer related equipment, glass, slate or marble table tops, pool tables, grandfather clocks, aquariums, safes, china, books, antiques, knick-knacks and any other item requiring special care. Arrangements can be made in advance for moving some upright pianos and organs at an additional charge. Please remove all wall decorations/pictures in both the installation room and adjacent room(s) to avoid unforeseen falling/damage caused during the normal installation process.

REMOVE ALL MOLDINGS
Please remove wood moldings, vinyl or rubber cove base installed over your existing floor coverings. Carpet Mart is not liable for breakage, damage or replacement. Carpet Mart is not responsible for any unforeseen problems with sub-floors not visible when your project was estimated. Arrangements can be made in advance for removal and replacement of moldings at additional cost.

STRIP ALL BEDS & CLEAR CLOSETS
In bedrooms, please strip the beds and have all items removed from the closet floors. All beds that require assembly must be dismantled and reassembled by you. All water beds must be emptied and removed from the room.

DISCONNECT ELECTRONICS AND APPLIANCES
Please disconnect all stereo/CD systems, cable and phone connections, computer connections, alarm systems and any other electronic devices. Carpet Mart is not responsible for the removal and/or replacement of telephone, computer, television or alarm wires and cables installed along the perimeter of the floor or beneath the existing floor covering. Disconnect all appliances; including stoves, refrigerators, icemakers, dishwashers, trash compactors, washers and dryers. You are responsible for disconnecting and reconnecting gas, water, electrical and icemaker hookups.

HAVE ALL BALANCES DUE READY ON INSTALLATION DAY
All balances due must be paid in full upon completion of installation either to the installer directly or through the installer to the store with your credit card on file or pre-authorized finance account.

READ, REVIEW AND DOUBLE CHECK ALL PAPERWORK
While we do everything possible to make sure all order information is complete and accurate, we cannot be responsible for errors and omissions on order paperwork. Additionally, Carpet Mart and its installers are not responsible for any unfortunate deviations in scheduling resulting in lost time or other inconveniences caused by traffic, inclement weather or any other rare unforeseen factor(s) that may inhibit normal installation.

Please Note: If the above work is not completed prior to installation, rescheduling and extra charges may apply. Additionally, you may be asked to sign a waiver that you have reviewed, read and understand this folder and all documents related to this transaction.

POST INSTALLATION & CARE TIPS

DOOR REMOVAL AND REHANGING
It is always necessary to remove doors, so our installers will remove the pins and doors for you. After installation, we will rehang the doors under normal circumstances. Please be aware that there is the possibility that after installation the doors may not clear and swing freely, and will not be rehung by the installers. We are unable to plane or cut doors as this requires equipment and expertise best provided by a licensed carpenter.

SEAMS
Seams will be professionally made but we cannot guarantee invisibility. However, we do guarantee the structure and that they are made correctly. Some carpet and vinyl hide seams better than others and traffic levels and light sources can also accentuate or hide seams.

ROLL MARKS
You may see shaded areas or lines across the width of a new carpet. These are a result of the weight of the carpet resting on itself during storage. These marks will disappear in time with normal traffic and vacuuming. During the cold, dry months, these marks may be particularly stubborn. If roll marks are still visible after 90-days, please call your Carpet Mart store service department.

BUBBLES
Occasionally you may notice some bubbles from under a new vinyl floor which is normal after installation and should disappear within 3-4 weeks.

CARPETING
Immediately following the installation, you should thoroughly vacuum your new carpet to remove excess or loose fibers that may be present. New carpet requires regular vacuuming and regular professional cleaning. We recommend your new carpet be vacuumed at least twice a week for the first year, and daily in high traffic areas. Likewise, we also recommend that you have your carpet professionally cleaned every 18-months.

WOOD & LAMINATE FLOORING
Please note that no laminate flooring is absolutely scratch-proof, but with regular vacuuming with a hard surface attachment and using a correct hard surface cleaner, your laminate floor should look great for years. With wood floors and laminates, use entrance mats and floor protectors on furniture legs and chairs. Wipe up spills with a damp sponge. Never use oil or soap cleaners. Follow manufacturers specific care tips for prolonging the life of your flooring.

VINYL FLOORING
Damp mop weekly with non-detergent floor cleaner. Use floor protectors for furniture or appliances. Use only floor care products approved by the vinyl manufacturer.

CERAMIC TILE
After new ceramic has been installed and has dried and cured completely, you should seal the grout with a quality grout sealant. Thereafter, your prompt attention to spills can prevent surface stains to some tiles and all grout. Do not damp mop your new tile floor for the first 3-days and refrain from walking on new tile for 24 hours. Use only cleaners recommended specifically for ceramic tile.
